Meet Reviewer #2 before the journal introduces you

Desk rejections and brutal reviews arrive months after you could have done anything about them. ToughCrowd runs your manuscript past a panel that reads the way referees read — hunting for the overclaim in the abstract, the missing baseline, the limitation you buried in a subordinate clause — and returns the objections now, in writing, with suggested fixes.

Why the feedback you get now doesn’t help

  • You wait four months to learn about a flaw a careful reader would have caught in an afternoon.
  • Co-authors share your assumptions, so nobody in the group questions the framing.
  • The statistics are defensible but presented in a way that invites suspicion.
  • Your contribution is real but stated so modestly (or so grandly) that reviewers misjudge it.

your panel

Who reads your work

A suggested panel for this material. Each reviewer has explicit biases and instructions to be useful rather than kind — and they are free to disagree with each other.

Reviewer #2 · Hostile Academic Reviewer

Overclaimed novelty, thin related work, and conclusions the results don't support.

Ingrid Halvorsen · Skeptical Data Scientist

Missing denominators, absent baselines, and inferences that don't follow from the data.

Dr. Alan Whitfield · University Lecturer

Whether a competent reader outside your subfield can follow the argument.

Hana Kim · Conference Program Chair

Whether the abstract survives a triage skim without the reader losing the thread.

How it works

  1. 1Paste your text, upload a PDF, or import a public URL.
  2. 2Pick your reviewers — or describe your audience and let ToughCrowd generate matching personas.
  3. 3Each reviewer writes an in-voice critique, scores a four-part rubric, and lists concrete fixes.
  4. 4A synthesis pass reports where the panel agrees, where it conflicts, and what to fix first.

Questions

Is this peer review?

No — it's rehearsal for peer review. These are AI-generated critiques, not qualified expert opinion, and they carry no authority. Their value is catching the objections that are predictable, so human reviewers can spend their attention on the ones that aren't.

What's the best part to submit?

Abstract plus introduction and methods gets the most actionable critique. Those are the sections that decide desk rejections, and they're short enough to review cheaply.

Will my unpublished manuscript be used for training?

No. Your material is sent to our AI provider solely to produce your audit and is never used to train models. It's deleted when you delete your account.
